How important is it to confirm your domain contact information?

If you own a domain name, one or more, you would probably get an email from your registrar such as one below from network solution. So the question is, how important is it to confirm your domain ownership data information? what about those hidden protected privacy enabled which cost you $20 a year or so.

The consequent of not having your domain contact information correct basically if someone complaint about your website contents being illegal, well they don’t know who to contact or contacted wrong fake person and the result could end up you not knowing about your website being shut down. That’s about it, it’s just a contract to make sure you have latest contact information otherwise you can loose your domain due to not being able to contact you.

However you may get a message, kind of a threat, saying “When you registered your domain with us, you agreed to keep your contact information in Account Manager current, and the WHOIS policy mandates that we ask you to verify and/or update this information periodically. Further, ICANN requires us to remind you that providing inaccurate or dated contact information may be grounds for domain name cancellation”

Action Required: Notice Regarding Your Domain Name(s)

Dear ,

This notification is being sent to you as a contractual requirement of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) WHOIS policy. When you registered your domain with us, you agreed to keep your contact information in Account Manager current, and the WHOIS policy mandates that we ask you to verify and/or update this information periodically. Further, ICANN requires us to remind you that providing inaccurate or dated contact information may be grounds for domain name cancellation.

To review your current account information:Go to the Whois Lookup
Type your domain name in the WHOIS search box, and click the “Search” button to display your domain name registration.

If your WHOIS information has changed, or is inaccurate, please log in to Account Manager to make any necessary updates, or, call 1-877-870-7515 (or 1-902-749-5367 for international calls) to speak with a Network Solutions customer service representative. If your information is correct, you do not need to take any action.

Remember, if you use Private Registration, you are still required to maintain accurate contact information within Account Manager. You may review the ICANN policy here.

Thank you for your attention to this important ICANN-required message, and thanks for being a Network Solutions customer.

Sincerely,
Network Solutions Customer Service
